Meet Dr. Pompliano

Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Spine Surgeon in Columbia, Missouri

Dr. Michael Pompliano treats the full range of neck and back conditions, with a special focus on motion-sparing surgery and minimally invasive techniques. His care starts with a conversation, not a procedure.

Practice Distinction

A surgeon who listens first.

Many spine problems cannot be understood from a scan alone. Dr. Pompliano starts every visit by listening. He wants to know how your symptoms began, what they stop you from doing, and what you want to get back to.

He explains each diagnosis in depth and in plain language. Then he walks through every treatment option with you, with a recommendation built for your specific situation. His patients leave the room understanding what is happening in their spine and why.

Research & Innovation

A background in research.

Dr. Pompliano has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and has presented research at national conferences. He works closely with industry leaders to evaluate new techniques and technology.

The goal of that work is simple: find treatments that give patients with neck and back pain a better quality of life.

Surgical Judgment

A thoughtful surgical approach.

Dr. Pompliano believes in the power of non-surgical care. Physical therapy, exercise and strength training, yoga, acupuncture, chiropractic care, and pain management injections all have a place. He recommends surgery only when those options fail to bring relief.

When surgery is the right answer, he favors approaches that protect the spine. That includes motion-sparing procedures such as artificial disc replacement and minimally invasive techniques that shorten recovery.

Complex & Revision Cases

Complex spine cases.

Dr. Pompliano regularly cares for patients with complex problems: spinal deformity, scoliosis, spinal trauma, and revision surgery after a prior operation did not deliver the expected result.

These cases demand careful planning and honest conversation about what surgery can and cannot fix. That is the standard he holds for every patient.

Next Steps

What to expect as a patient.

Your first visit is about finding the true source of your symptoms. Dr. Pompliano reviews your history and any imaging, performs a focused exam, and explains what he finds in plain language.

From there, you build a plan together. Most plans start with non-surgical care. If surgery becomes the right choice, you will understand exactly why.

The goal is simple: find the real cause, then choose the right path forward.
